Rotary Arts Conversation: Dancers Sharon Friedler and Jon Sherman
May 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$10
The Park Avenue Community Center is excited to welcome professional dancers Sharon Friedler and Jon Sherman as the next featured guests in our popular speaker series, Rotary Arts Conversations.
Join us for an in-depth discussion with this husband and wife team whose mastery spans ballet, African, tap and modern dance, and have now focused their expertise on teaching dance to those living with Parkinson’s disease.
Friedler and Sherman are retired members of the Swarthmore College faculty where they taught dance for several decades. In addition to her choreography and teaching, Friedler is the co-editor of the book, “Dancing Female: Lives and Issues of Women in Contemporary Dance.”
Sherman was a professional ballet dancer in the Philadelphia region and a member of the Swarthmore College dance faculty for nearly 30 years. He was also a member of the school of the Pennsylvania Ballet and the University of the Arts faculties for almost 20 years.
The couple’s mission for the past decade has been assisting those living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners to embrace dance as a way to build a more resilient and joyous life. The pair will be in conversation with dancer and choreographer Jeannine Osayande.
Tickets are $10 and include a wine-and-cheese reception; please purchase at the link provided. Walk-ins are welcome as space permits.
