Our last Emerging Artists concert of the season features something different: the “magical” (Tuva International Festival) Alexandrov-Skliar Duo performing classical selections, Russian folk songs, and more on mandolin, domra, and gusli, accompanied by the talented Thomas Weaver on the piano. Both masters of mandolin and domra, Alexey Alexandrov and Ekaterina Skliar formed a duo in 2015 that has earned acclaim for its arrangements of masterpieces for its unique instrumentation, including a nomination for the MIRA World Music Award in Russia and Best Instrumental Project in the Ustuu-Huree International Festival in the Republic of Tuva. Its members have also won multiple awards. Alexey won the 2018 Made in NY Jazz Competition and top prizes in the First and Third Libertango International Competitions and the International Gold Iria Ethno Music Competition. Ekaterina won the 2019 Astral Auditions and the Kaleidoscope Instrumental and Vocal Competition in 2018 and two Silver Global Music Awards for her recordings.

Thomas Weaver is a pianist, award-winning composer, and conductor currently on faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. A sought-after pianist, he has appeared in major concert halls throughout North America, Europe, and Asia and is also an active chamber musician.
