Our Emerging Artists Series continues with the multi-talented Luosha Fang on viola and violin and pianist Arseniy Gusev performing their romantic “Fantasie” program including works by Liszt, Schumann, Kreisler, Schubert, and more. As a bonus, a winner of our 2025 Annual Youth Festival will perform a Chopin Nocturne before the main concert.
Luosha Fang has won competitions on both violin and viola, including the 2019 Classic Strings International Competition in Vienna, 2018 Tokyo International Viola Competition, and Astral Artists’ 2013 National Auditions. She was the founding first violin of the Chimeng Quartet, Silver Medalist at the 2010 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and violist of the Pavel Haas Quartet in Prague in 2020 and 2021. She made her debut on the violin at age 8 in her native Shanghai, studied at the Bard College Conservatory of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, and Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, and now teaches at Bard.
Pianist and composer Arseniy Gusev has been studying music since he was 5. He graduated with honors from the Specialized Music School of the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory and also studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, then earned a bachelor’s from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and now studies at The Juilliard School; he also has a master’s in composition from the Yale School of Music. He is a laureate of many prestigious competitions, including the International Keyboard Institute & Festival’s Dorothy MacKenzie Award, and the Cleveland Piano Virtu(al)oso, Singapore International Piano, Three Arts Piano, and International Gavrilin Competitions
