Travels at Twelve: The Legacy of Great Dixter House and Garden: The Centenary of Christopher Lloyd’s Birth
Thursday, February 3, 2022, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
FreeLegendary gardener, writer, and nurseryman Christopher Lloyd, Order of the British Empire and recipient of the Victoria Medal of Honour, would have celebrated his 100th birthday in March of 2021. His garden at Great Dixter in Northiam, East Sussex, England, continues on in the style that made him famous – bold colors in a modified Arts and Crafts cottage garden style. Garden structure, either man-made or fashioned from plants, and the use of herbaceous perennials, grasses, and later on, bold annuals and tender perennials, are characteristic of his dynamic, but very personal, garden. Jeff Jabco will reminisce about their decade-plus friendship and visits by both of them, on both sides of the Atlantic. Jeff is the Director of Grounds for Swarthmore College and Coordinator of Horticulture for the Scott Arboretum.
