Nature Printing Workshop
Saturday, October 1, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm$70 – $80
Join Laura Bethmann, artist and author of Hand Printing From Nature, to learn about and create detailed, life-sized prints of fresh garden plants in this hands-on workshop. Practiced by luminaries such as Leonardo da Vinci and Ben Franklin, we will explore the intriguing ancient art and science of Nature Printing using fresh botanicals from the gardens of the Scott Arboretum.
The Nature Printing technique is a simple, direct-printing process that stirs our kinship with the earth and charges our creative energies. Laura will discuss some of the fascinating history of this practice and demonstrate basic techniques. No previous art experience is necessary, just bring your love of plants! We are excited to welcome Laura for an in-person workshop after her well-received How To Print Your Garden Gardens and Tonic presentation last year.
All art materials will be supplied. We will use oil-based, water-soluble relief printing inks and a variety of papers. Laura will provide aprons, or bring your own. Many of Laura’s nature prints, nature printed objects, and books will be displayed for inspiration.
This workshop will take place at the Wister Center on the Swarthmore campus.
