Bluegrass Jam

Twice a month, fans of bluegrass music can enjoy – and participate in making – this traditional acoustic music. The Kelly Center Bluegrass Jam is scheduled for the first and third Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 PM starting on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, and all are welcome.

A “jam” is an open session where musicians can gather to play music, where everyone has a turn to call the tune and everyone gets to play along. The Kelly Center Bluegrass Jam welcomes players and singers at all skill levels to participate at whatever level is comfortable for them.

FREE admission for all.  Donations appreciated at the Jam or Venmo @Kelly4music or PayPal/Credit Card https://kellycenter.org/contribute/

For all events, we are focusing on SAFETY.  We have improved air filtration inside the Kelly Center for the safety of Customers, Staff and Performers.  We have upgraded to Hospital Grade HEPA air filtration, Negative Air Ion filters and Apple Catechin filters with antiviral and antibacterial properties.  These upgrades trap and deactivate microscopic bacteria and viruses, and can diminish or prevent the spread of diseases. Our HVAC draws in fresh air from outside, completely turning the inside air over every 5 minutes. We open the windows when appropriate to improve fresh air flow.

According to the host and organizer, Alfred Poor, “Bluegrass is a truly American music that actually was not created until the 1940s by mandolin legend, Bill Monroe. It’s a wonderful blend of folk, blues, and jazz that just makes people smile.”

The Kelly Center Bluegrass Jam is a spin-off from the Radnor Medium Jam which recently relocated to Malvern. “We’re grateful to the Kelly Center for providing such a wonderful space for this new jam,” said Poor. “It has great acoustics and is arranged so that there is plenty of room for the musicians as well as anyone who wants to just come and listen.”

Tom Kelly, Chairman and Executive Director of the Kelly Center, pointed out that “building a musical community is central to our mission. This new bluegrass jam will provide new opportunities for people to create and enjoy music, especially for younger musicians who would like to learn more about bluegrass.”
