Benefit Concert to support New Beginnings – Next Step & Hedgerow Theatre

Renowned singer-songwriter John Flynn will perform a special one-night only concert, hosted by John Harvey (Harvey in the Morning) to benefit both Hedgerow Theatre and New Beginnings – Next Step, a groundbreaking non-profit effort to fight offender recidivism.

New Beginnings-Next Step is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting returning citizens as they transition from incarceration to freedom.  Work with offenders initially begins within prison walls through weekly New Beginnings peer support meetings, as long-term relationships are formed and trust is established.  Later, upon their release, the reintegration of returning citizens is assisted by the Next Step program.  Throughout the transition, principles of respect, compassion, and honesty are continually emphasized to help guide members through decision making and life choices as they break the cycle of recidivism and begin to move forward on a solid path.

John Flynn is an American singer-songwriter and activist known for his powerful music and tireless efforts on behalf of “the lost and the lonely, the shackled and scarred.”  The 65-year-old Grammy honoree has received high praise from the likes of musical legends and mentors Kris Kristofferson, Arlo Guthrie, and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott.  Over three and a half decades, Flynn’s music has carried him from Nashville’s Music Row to star-studded benefit shows at Tipitina’s in New Orleans; from home plate performances in major league ballparks to concerts in maximum-security prisons; from anti-war rallies to special-invitation appearances at the Walter Reed Military Hospital and the Dover Air Force Base. In 2019, along with Stevie Wonder, Flynn was a co-recipient of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Champion of Justice Humanitarian award.
