Django & Friends Open Swing Jam
Thursday, December 5, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An event every month that begins at 7:00 pm on day First of the month, repeating until Friday, December 6, 2024
The Django & Friends Open Swing Jam happens on the first Thursday of the month. We get together to play Swing music. The focus is on the swing and gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt, but we welcome other music of that type – jazz standards, Great American Songbook, even Western Swing – just as long as it gets the foot tapping. All instruments are welcome, but the focus is on strings – guitar, mandolin, violin, etc. We play unamplified. If you are looking for a friendly place to play tunes like Sweet Georgia Brown, Lady Be Good, and Sweet Sue, this is it. This music is great fun to listen to as well as to play – you may even find yourself wanting to jitterbug a little! If you are new to Swing music, it is a great venue to learn new tunes and techniques. But be ready – it could get hot!
A “jam” is an open session where musicians can gather to play music, where everyone has a turn to call the tune and everyone gets to play along. The Kelly Center Swing Jam welcomes players and singers at all skill levels to participate at whatever level is comfortable for them.
FREE admission for all. Donations appreciated at the Jam or Venmo @Kelly4music or PayPal/Credit Card https://kellycenter.org/contribute/
