Ceremony Play reading

Just in time for Pride Month, local playwright Dave Ebersole examines a piece of LGBTQ history in his new fictional play CEREMONY based on real events.

In 1957, a gay couple walked into a North Philadelphia drug store to get pictures developed of the happiest day of their lives: their commitment ceremony. Deeming the photos “inappropriate” the shop owner refused to return the mementos of their special day. Flashforward to now; Doug, a queer investigative journalist, unearths the photos, and begins the quest to find who these men were and what their lives can tell us about who we are now.

This historical fiction play in development will receive its first public reading on June 23rd at 7:30.
