Delaware County Symphony Presents Orchestral Music from South of the Border
Sunday, March 3, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
$20Dodson, described by Performance Today as “one of the top young guitarists of his generation” was the first guitarist to graduate from the Curtis Institute of Music’s new guitar program and won Astral Artists’ National Auditions the same year. He joins the orchestra for a rare performance of the Guitar Concerto by Heitor Villa-Lobos. The balance of the program features works from Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, and includes Alberto Ginastera’s exciting Danzas del Ballet Estancia, José Moncayo’s most famous piece, Huapango, and the majestic Festa das Igrejas by renowned Brazilian composer, Francisco Mignone. The concert concludes with Arturo Márquez’s Conga del Fuego Nuevo, a work in which he draws much of his music inspiration from his father who was a mariachi musician in Mexico. Find out more about the pieces featured at this concert by attending Meet the Music, a free, pre-concert lecture presented by Neumann University Music Professor, Dr. Richard Sayers, at 2:00 PM.
