Scott Arboretum: Exploring Botanical Art with Hapa-Zome
Thursday, September 26, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$32 – $42
Join us for this stress-relieving workshop to learn more about surface design and natural dyes with Tara Webb during Delco Arts Week. Participants will create botanical art on gypsy headbands, doggie bandanas, or infinity scarves using a technique called ‘Hapa-zome.’
Hapa-zome, also known as the art of pounding leaves, is a design technique where pigment from fresh leaves and flowers is pounded onto textiles to create beautiful patterns from organic imprints. Space is limited to 18.
Tara Webb is an artist, maker, teacher, and plant enthusiast with a background in theatrical design. Her most recent adventures include explorations of textile surface design and natural dye processes using plant materials, non-toxic organics and food waste. Other current projects include a year long study of the “local color” possibilities of the Swarthmore trees and plants and helping the campus towards a zero waste future.
The cost is $32 for members and $42 for nonmembers. Register by calling 610-328-8025 or visit scottarboretum.org.
